We often visualize that perfect spot, away from the city sounds, by a river and dimly mood-lit with hurricane lamps. You want to call this private spot then, for the evening. You notice that there's a hammock to chill in and some firewood for a campfire and you're ready to call this home.
Add a high adrenaline white water rafting adventure or a lazy boating ride. Or an evening walk where you may occasionally spot an owl, but you will definitely find yourself.
Come Camping at Kolad with hosts Shyam and Sarita
Big Red Tent kolad is the idyllic raft and camp location. The campground is set in a lovely forested clearing which surprisingly has amenities to boot.
This is an experience you would love to enjoy for a romantic evening by yourself or with a group of likeminded friends. We're in the business of creating happy campers!
Mornings at the campground mean a 4-5 hour rafting activity. Some halting enroute Goa will head off in at dawn to make good time.
The rest will find ample stimulus in a short walk in just about any direction from the campground.
Evenings are made of pitching tents, campfires, barbecues and treks but also sunsets, silhouettes and sounds of nature.
Our campground has just a few private sites. It is a cozy atmosphere where campers meet, interact and share camping stories. Each site is equipped with picnic tables and lanterns to light your space.
Our common areas have games and puzzles, and the thrill of playing "Jenga", "Taboo" or "Scrabble" in the outdoors is a must-experience. Plan some reading, sketching or other do it yourself activity ideas to and enrich your experience.
Showers and WCs are common to campers. These are maintained to high standards with designated changing space.
There is no cellphone connectivity or electricity at this location. Please leave the number: 02194-205074 with your friends/family so that they may reach you. Making too many outgoing calls engages the phone which should be left available for incoming calls.
The Kundalika egged on by waters of the Bhira Dam is the ONLY ALL-YEAR white water rafting location in India. With Grade II & III rapids, it is a terrific introduction to White Water Rafting and the only option in the viscinity of Mumbai and Pune.
The Rafting starts with gearing-up followed by instructions by your Raft - Guide . Then ensues loading and a 12km stretch of white water rafting and body surfing. You will laugh, scream or lose yourself in the madness from which you emerge 3 hours later. The rafting ends as you pull the raft onto land
Clothing
Light clothing preferably lycra, something that is easy to dry and not heavy when wet. Wear Strap-on floaters (footwear). They will get wet in the river so they should be able to take it.
Do not wear jewelery or danglers around neck, ears or wrists. Avoid rings on fingers as far as possible.
You need to know that
Rafting is only permissible to patrons over 14yrs of age
Rafting happens ONLY ONCE every day at 8:30am, except in the monsoons when it is more frequent.
Rafting MUST be booked in ADVANCE and no cancellations are possible
Our Kolad campground is located just where the rafting ends. You will need transport to get to the rafting location from camp which is 17km away. Please let us know in advance so that we may make arrangements
Due to dam schedules, rafting may not be possible on rare occasion. This is beyond our control and you will be refunded rafting charges in this case
Our Kolad campground is a private space which encourages you to get out there and do some activity. Yet the approaching evening beckons you to settle down by the campfire, skim stones in the river or just reflect on how life got so busy!
The river is accessible for boating or swimming but most of all RAFTING. Morning afternoon or night, there's nothing like a dip in the river to regain your perspective on everything that's good!
It is possible to engage in a night trek and seasonal waterfalls. There are also Rappelling, River Crossing and Quad Biking possible through operators around the campground. Please book these activities in advance.
Mornings have pleasant ambling and a rizing buzz as our guests emerge from their tents. You will also hear the hectic activity of those leaving for rafting that day.
If you're still at camp, You can attempt some yoga or meditation with the rising sun.
A walk down to the river is beautiful at this time. It is a 2 minute walk but with no cellphone connectivity at the spot, it is quality time to lose yourself.
You can of course dig into the board games or puzzles or continue reading that novel that you put down at sunset.
There is ample shaded space to even battle the afternoon sun.
Evenings are spectacular as the campground is bathed in a golden glow.
You have a few hours of light in which to play some football or just toss around a frizbee
The evening is also time to pitch tents. Do this before its too dark. Don't worry we will remind you.
Dusk by the lake is also beautiful and you should probably head there with your evening cup of tea
Pitch in to get the campfire going or spend those last few hours of light with a novel in a hammock Nights are the the most exciting time at the campground. As it gets a little chilly, sitting by a campfire is a pleasure
If you have prepared a barbecue, this is where you test your skills. Regardless you will probably enjoying a grilled meal in the evening
You will probably meet other campers around the campfire and maybe exchage a story
Nights are restful and sky gazing, or a night stroll or even a night hike are possible.
And finally sleeping in tents is an experience in itself.
You are camping, and its your own time in the outdoors. Plan it to enjoy it.

What if i have my own tent and sleeping bags?
You are most welcome to bring your own equipment. We want to encourage experienced campers!.
You will get a per person discount of Rs.200 for your tent and Rs.150 for your sleeping bags.
What is the weather like? Do we need to carry any special kind of clothing?
Be prepared for the outdoors. The evenings can get chilly in winter. A single sweater should do the trick. The afternoons can get warm through the year, so carry some light clothing too! Refer to our PREP KIT pdf for details on what to carry.
Is swimming in the river permitted??
Swimming in the river is a monitored activity. We welcome the thought, just ask your camp hosts and you can take a dip
Are there a lot of bugs, snakes and creepy crawlies around?
You will encounter sounds and creatures of nature. They respect our presence. Watch your step in the dark and use mosquito repellant and you should be fine. Your tent is sealed to not allow any insects in. Ensure that you close the door, and you will have a pleasant night's stay

No - our kolad site is naturally powered. We have no electrical points on site.
